BOSTON, DECEMBER 20, 2012—Pioneer Consulting announces the release of the new industry report "Suppliers of Undersea Telecommunications Systems."
Since the ground-breaking first edition in 2005, several aspects of the global submarine fiber optic systems supply market have changed significantly, particularly due to new technologies and new competitors. As new technology makes old systems more upgradable, careful attention to the capabilities of emerging suppliers is critical to anyone with a stake in the undersea marketplace.
Mr. Howard Kidorf, Author and Managing Partner at Pioneer Consulting, emphasized, "this report is an asset for cable developers, financial institutions and suppliers. This is the only report that puts all of the information—technical and commercial—about the undersea systems supply industry in one place."
"Suppliers of Undersea Telecommunications Systems" provides a comprehensive review of supplier products, capabilities and design parameters, (i.e., terminal equipment for repeatered/repeaterless systems and branching units), a view on market trends and drivers, and quantitative forecasts. "Pioneer carefully assessed comparative supplier analysis taking into consideration supplier offerings, market shares, supply and upgrade history, and key abilities required for success within the submarine cable market." Mr. Kidorf continued.
Within the report, each supplier profile includes work/supply history, financial standing and a focus on efforts to develop new technologies.

Winner Takes All?
Since 2009, nearly US$3 billion a year on average has been invested in new submarine cable systems worldwide. Global growth in demand for capacity of around 45% CAGR underpins these investments- although systems are also constructed for reasons of route diversity, cost efficiency, competitive advantage, entrepreneurial whim, and to address previously unserved routes or markets. However, some fiber optic cable developers are asserting low latency as another key driver. Arctic Fibre, ASE, Emerald Express, Hibernia Express, ROTACS, SAEx, and Seabras are all examples of recently commissioned or planned systems that include low latency as part of their marketing pitch. But is low latency a significant factor for the typical customer? Does it drive their decision to select one cable over another? What is the value of latency improvement to the end user? Can low latency justify new builds?
